My name is Jenny Thorn and this is my 20th year of teaching. Kennedy School is a great place to be and I am so fortunate to be teaching in the wonderful District 81 community. I am also lucky to be a parent in this district where I am active and supportive of our fabulous teachers and staff.

I arrived at Kennedy School in 2019 teaching first grade. I formerly taught first and fifth grades and I love teaching second grade now. I received a Bachelor's degree from Marquette University and a Master's degree from National Louis University. I also received my ESL endorsement.

When I am not teaching I enjoy cheering on and coaching my kids in their many sports!

We have math, reading and writing daily using the Pearson Envision and Savvas curriculum. Supplemental materials are used to meet the needs of all learners.

Specials are an important part of our curriculum at Kennedy School. Students will have ART, Music, STEM and P.E. each week. When we have P.E. on Wednesdays and Fridays, please sure your child has gym shoes on these days.

We visit our incredible Media Center on Mondays. Each week students can choose two new books if they return their library books.

Incentive & Behavior Policies

In D203, students receive positive incentives of Kenny Paws, good news calls home, and a chance to fill up their "punch cards". A completed punch card allows for students to pick a prize from our prize bin.

If a student is having difficulty with being respectful and responsible Kubbies, a "think sheet" will be sent home for a parent to sign.

2nd Grade Homework Policy

We do not give daily homework in 2nd grade. You will see a math paper called "homework'" that follows a lesson that was taught in school that day. Students are welcome to complete this paper but it is not required.

Reading for 15-20 minutes each night is also recommended.
